Introduction to Header IDs Or SENDER ID'S

A Header ID/ SENDER ID is an alphanumeric string assigned to an individual, business, or legal entity under TRAI (Telecom Regulatory Authority of India) regulations to send commercial communications via SMS or voice. The header acts as the sender's identifier and must be registered on the Distributed Ledger Technology (DLT) platform to ensure compliance with regulatory standards.

  • Used to identify the sender of commercial communications.

  • Mandatory for all businesses and entities sending promotional, transactional, or service-based messages.

  • Ensures transparency and reduces spam or fraudulent messaging.

Types of Header IDs

Promotional Headers- 6-digit numeric strings used exclusively for sending promotional messages. The first digit represents the category of the header

Transactional Headers - Alphanumeric strings (3-6 characters) used for sending transactional messages such as OTPs or critical banking information.

Service Implicit Headers- Alphanumeric strings used for service messages arising from customer actions or existing relationships, such as transaction alerts or order updates.

Service Explicit Headers- Alphanumeric strings used for service messages sent with explicit customer consent, such as promotional offers or updates.

Step-by-Step Guide to Registering a Header ID

1. Login to the TSP DLT Portal:
Access the Telecom Service Provider (TSP) DLT portal using your Principal Entity credentials.

 

2. Navigate to Header SMS Registration:
Go to the "SMS Headers" section and select "Header SMS Registration."

3. Enter Header Details:
Fill in the required details such as header type (Promotional, Transactional, Service Implicit, or Service Explicit) and category.

4. Submit for Approval:

Submit the header registration request for approval.

​​

5. Validation by the Registrar:
The DLT operator registrar will validate the provided details and approve or reject the header registration request.

6. Notification of Registration Status:
You will receive notification via registered email and mobile number once the header is approved or if there are any discrepancies.

 

​7. Reuse Across Operators:
Once registered with one operator, the header ID does not need to be registered with other operators.
